Planning your big day
Planning your wedding can seem overwhelming. For this reason, I’ve outlined four key areas you’ll need to consider. Getting on top of these will go a long way to getting you prepared!
1.
People: First and foremost weddings are about people; about family and about friends. When planning your wedding, you’ll also need to consider who you’ll rely on to carry out important roles. There are the obvious roles to consider; bridesmaids, best man, and a celebrant, but you’ll also need to consider all the other people you’ll need to approach. Do you want someone to welcome people to the ceremony? You might like to have people do readings, or children as flower bearers, and someone to take care of the music. There is a lot to think about, but your celebrant can help.
2.
Location: The main thing to consider is whether the ceremony will take place indoors or outdoors. If outside, you’ll want to consider the possibility of unfavourable weather. This could be rain, but also heat. In some instances these factors can be mitigated with temporary shelters or areas for people to cool down. Ideally though, you’ll have a back-up location where the ceremony can take place indoors. Also, consider how people will get to and from your wedding. Make provisions for parking and alternate forms of transport - you want to be sure people can get to and from your ceremony safely.
3.
Style: When it comes to wedding style, this is your chance to inject a bit of your personality into the proceedings. Vintage, rustic, bohemian, tropical; no matter what you choose, a theme can help inform your choices. From catering to music; floral arrangements to the design of your invitations. Having a theme will help ensure things hang together on the day.
4.
Structure - This is where a good celebrant comes to the fore. They’ll help plan where and when things will happen. It’s important to know how long different parts of the ceremony should take. You don’t want people to become bored, or leave underwhelmed because it was over so quickly!
